How SaferGrade works

Records indaily / monthly

We ingest the FMCSA company census (4.5M registrations) daily, MOTUS authority/insurance/revocation deltas daily, and SMS inspection and crash input files monthly — archived, attested, and normalized with the vintage on every row.

Composite out0–100 + grade

Seven components — operating status, docket authority, insurance filings, driver and vehicle out-of-service rates vs national baselines, recorded crashes per power unit, and MCS-150 recency. Missing records are excluded, never counted against a carrier. Full methodology.

You decideobservational

The grade summarizes what public records show — it is not a safety-fitness determination, and FMCSA cautions against using SMS data alone to reach one. Use it to see the records fast, then apply your own vetting standards.
